Cloghastookeen Castle (in ruins) — Report the wrong picture

Cloghastookeen Castle stood inside a cashel-like enclosure in County Galway when Hubt McEdmud McUllig held it in 1574. Only an irregular stony mound remains, yet a pointed arched doorway still faces east and a fireplace opens west, preserving the shape of rooms where people likely breathed, cooked and argued. The ruin does not need a grand legend because its stones still point toward the lives that shaped them.

In the SE quadrant of a cashel-like enclosure (GA105-062002-). In existence in 1574 when it was in the possession of 'Hubt McEdmud McUllig' (Nolan 1901, 113). All that survives is an irregular stony mound within which a pointed arched doorway, facing E, is visible at N and a fireplace, facing W, at SSE. Cloghastookeen Castle was held by Hubert McEdmund McUllig in 1574 and is remembered as a medieval stronghold associated with the local Gaelic lineage. Its remains, though largely in ruins, provide insight into early Irish castle architecture and landholding patterns.
