Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Carnbane

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Clear water and sharp shadows mark the oval fort at Carnbane. It is a fairy fort in local story, but the ground suggests human hands shaped the bank and people lived inside the ring. The shape still holds on the slope, waiting for rain or memory to make it visible again.
Located towards the bottom of an E-facing slope. An oval cropmark (dims c. 35m N-S; c. 30m E-W) defined by what might be a single bank feature is visible as a parch-mark on the OSi orthophotos (2000). Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of revised upload: 23 February 2018
