Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Camaross

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Located towards the bottom of the steep NW-facing slope of Camross Hill, at the junction with a gentler slope. A subcircular cropmark (diam. c. 50m) defined by a single fosse feature is visible on aerial photograph (CUCAP, BDR 6). It is not visible at ground level in pasture but is also visible on digital aerial photographs (WX031-026_1 to _4) taken in 2006 where an entrance gap at E is visible. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
