Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cahernamona

Cahernamona holds a worn circular fort in open Galway grassland, its earth bank partly hidden beneath a later field wall. The subcircular rath measures about twenty-nine metres east-west and twenty-five metres north-south, large enough for a small dwelling or a crowded ritual meeting. A man-made passage cuts through the western interior, suggesting people still valued the site after the main bank had begun to fade.
