Fairy forts are human buildings mislabelled by folklore. In Boolybeg, a stone-lined earthen bank still breaks the pasture slope, preserving the shape drawn on the 1842 map. People may have lived, kept animals or marked a boundary there before the field system cut through it. The fairies entered later, as they often do where human ownership has faded.

In pasture, on W-facing slope. Depicted on 1842 OS 6-inch map as circular enclosure (diam. c. 24m). Earthen bank (H 1.7m), stone faced internally, survives in field fence system NW->SE. Low rise to S marks line of levelled bank. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
