Fairy forts are earthen ringforts from the middle ages. People called them fairy forts because they believed fairies lived there. Boolybeg had one of these forts. It was a circular enclosure about thirty-five metres across. The land is level now. The fort has disappeared. The story about fairies is wrong. The facts point to human hands building a defensible place. People lived there, defended it and left it behind. Forgetting is the second death. Remembering is the first mercy.
