No fairies built the fort at Boolies, though people believed it. The clay and stone banks stand thirty-six metres long on a west-facing slope, enclosing a small life marked by a possible hut and a southern entrance guarded by two large stones. Humans shaped the earth, defended the edge and left the rest behind.

Situated on a W-facing slope in an undulating landscape. This is a subrectangular grass-covered area (dims 36m NNE-SSW; 27m WNW-ESE) defined by a grass-covered bank of earth and stone (at W: Wth of base 4.5m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1.4m) separated by a rounded fosse (at W: Wth of top 6m; ext. D 0.35m) from an outer bank (at W: Wth of base 5.5m; ext. H 0.4m), both of which only survive SSE-W-N. The perimeter at E is represented by a small bank (Wth of base 4m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.4m) and the monument may have been truncated on this side. There is an entrance in the inner bank at S (Wth of base 2.5m) lined with a large stone on each side. Outside this is a slight causeway (Wth of top 2.1m; H 0.2m) and a gap through the outer bank. Outside the outer bank at NW is a possible hut-site (int. diam. 3.3m) defined by a grass-covered earthen bank (Wth of base 3-3.6m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.5m). It is attached to the outer bank of the rath but an entrance is not identified.
