Mortons has spent centuries waiting for someone to stop measuring its edges and start asking why they exist. It is a circular earthwork in County Kilkenny, with a low wide bank and faint traces of a surrounding ditch, set in good pasture at the end of a ridge. The numbers are clear: about twenty-three and a half metres across, with a bank roughly three metres wide. What is missing is the reason the circle was made, the hands that shaped it, and the life that moved inside it before pasture covered the answer.

At the end of a NW-SW ridge, land level from N-NE but falling away in all other directions, in good pasture. A circular area (int. diam. c. 23.5m) enclosed by low, wide earthen bank (Wth c. 3.1m; int. H c. 0.4-0.8; ext. H c. 0.8-1.1m), with slight traces of an external fosse in the E and S sectors.
