Barnacahoge holds a levelled ringfort on a Mayo ridge, overlooking a stream valley and resisting every map drawn since. Its scarped edge still marks a twenty-metre circle, though pasture and quarrying have bitten into the ancient line. Local story speaks of an underground passage within the rath, giving the forgotten fort a hidden breath beneath its broken rim.

In pasture, located on a ridge, at the break of slope on the E side, overlooking a stream valley. There are very good views along the course of the valley, especially to SE, and extensive views to N. Ground rises slightly to W and WSW. This rath is not indicated on any edition of the OS 6-inch maps. It has been levelled. The remains are evident as circular area (diam. c. 22.7m N−S; c. 21m E−W) defined by a curving scarp (Wth slope 5.5m; ext. H 3m) at NE−SE, which merges with the steep natural ridge slope, and elsewhere by a slight undulation representing a levelled bank or scarp. A field fence on a roughly N−S axis crosses the E edge of the rath. A portion of the rath scarp/ridge slope has been quarried away at NE.
