Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballynahaha

Fairy fort in Ballynahaha, County Limerick: a roughly circular earthen enclosure about forty metres across, with a low external ditch and dense overgrowth inside, sitting on a north-facing slope beside pasture and a modern bungalow. It is the kind of place people once called a fairy fort because the boundary seemed to belong less to human ownership than to exclusion, as if the land had drawn a line and waited to be obeyed. The earth may have marked a dwelling, a boundary, a ritual margin or a forgotten field margin, but the shape still works like a threshold: enter casually and the overgrowth closes the meaning, stand back and the circle appears deliberate.
