Fairy fort in Ballynagaul is a circular earthen enclosure about 23m across, marked by a flat-topped bank and a wider outer ridge, still standing in marshy pasture. Cattle have worn gaps through the bank, and overgrowth presses into the interior at the north and south ends, as if the place belongs more to living things than to memory. Whatever it was built to keep out, it has not stopped horses, sheep or people from walking through.

In gently undulating marshy pasture. Circular area (diam. c. 23m) enclosed by flat-topped earthen bank (int. H 1m; ext. H 2m; Wth at top 2m), with concentric outer bank NW->NE (H c. 0.4m; Wth c. 8m). Inner bank obscured by dense overgrowth, especially at N and S ends where overgrowth extends into interior. Breaks in bank at NNW, NE and SE caused by cattle accessing interior.
