Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are human rings, built and abandoned before written memory. Ballynacarriga is one of them: a shallow earth bank, a narrow ditch, two gaps for entry, and a forgotten life inside. The conifers have since grown through the ring, hiding its shape from casual eyes. What is clear is that people made this place, lived beside it, and disappeared from it. The fairies came later, filling the gap left by human forgetting.

In pasture, on W-facing slope. Circular area (31m E-W; 30.4m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (H 1.3m), with external fosse (D 1.5m). Gaps in bank with causeway to ENE and SW. Interior, bank and fosse planted with coniferous trees. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
