Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Situated on a low rise, in pasture, with extensive views to E, SE and S. A stepped barrow (WM030-065----) lies c. 285m to N. Not depicted on OS mapping. Monument described in 1979 as a large roughly oval-shaped area (dims. 73m E-W; 62m N-S) enclosed by a bank and external fosse. The faint bank is best preserved from SW-W and is almost reduced to a scarp elsewhere. The wide, shallow fosse is best preserved from NNE-E-SE and is not readily visible elsewhere. A modern field fence runs along the perimeter from NNW-N-NNE. There is no sign of an entrance. The interior has an uneven E-facing slope. There is a fairly flat area in the W quadrant which is slightly more elevated that the rest of the interior and there is a large stone just inside the perimeter at NNW. Monument is visible today as a large oval-shaped earthwork on Digital Globe aerial photography. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien. Date of upload: 08 November 2019

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
