Fairy fort in Ballymakellett, County Louth: a 27m circular earthwork with a 5m-wide bank rising 1.7m externally, a narrow NNE entrance, and possible hut marks in the southeast. People may have lived there, herded animals, or marked territory before written records reached the field. The fairies never appeared in the measurements, yet the name still belongs to them.

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Circular area (int. diam. 27m) enclosed by earthen bank (Wth 5m, H 0.7m internally, 1.7m externally) with stone-lined entrance gap (Wth 1.7m) at NNE. Possible cluster of huts (LH004-094002-) in SE quadrant with a dividing wall extending from them to the bank at WNW.
