Half a kilometre from the noisy coast road, a forgotten circle of earth still holds its shape in the Louth fields. Two banks and a narrow ditch enclose three small hut foundations, while a gap in the inner wall marks the entrance. People may have lived there before written history, raising stone edges and pulling turf into rings they believed would keep them safe. The fairies never came near, perhaps because humans had already claimed the ground.

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Circular area (int. diam. 29.5m) enclosed by two banks with traces of stonefacing and intervening U-shaped fosse. Inner bank (Wth 5m, H 0.3-1m internally, 2.2m externally) enclosed by a U-shaped fosse (Wth 5m, D c. 0.5m) and an outer bank (Wth 5m, H 0.7m internally, 1.4m externally). Entrance gap (Wth 2.1m) lined with large boulders at NW of inner bank. Three conjoined huts (LH004-084002-, LH004-084004-, LH004-084005-) in centre. (See also LH004-084003-)
