Fairy forts are human places misnamed, often because people stopped asking questions. Ballyknockane keeps its shape under fields and road edges: two banks, one ditch, a circular space about thirty metres across. The outer bank has become a boundary in parts, which is how much of Ireland forgot itself. What is missing is not structure but witness; the ditch and banks still mark a choice someone made about where inside and outside begin.

In tillage, on N-facing slope. Roughly circular area (diam. c. 30m) enclosed by two concentric earthen banks with intervening fosse (Wth 1.1m). Inner bank (int. H 1.45m; ext. H 2.7m) and outer bank (int. H 1.75m; ext. H 0.45m) both present steepest profile on NW side; outer bank replaced by field boundary N->SE and modified to form road boundary SE->SW.
