Ballygoghlan lost its fairy fort in 1987 when a low, bush-covered platform was levelled into ordinary pasture. The circular earthwork appeared on early maps, but the western edge had already vanished by the 1920s, suggesting the site decayed or was reused long before its final removal. What remains is an uneven field of shallow gullies and small hillocks, depriving the place of its shape but not its mystery.

In pasture, on NW-facing slope. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 23m) on 1841 OS but with enclosing element absent W->NE on 1923 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. According to local information it took the form of a low platform covered by trees and bushes, and c. 1.5m H, which was levelled in 1987. Local tradition associates it with fairy lore, as suggested by its name and the persistence of such beliefs in Irish rural landscapes.
