Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are human ringforts, misnamed because people stopped remembering the hands that built them. Ballygirriha is one of them: a circular earthworks in pasture, thirty metres across, with a bank still standing two and a half metres high. The fairies entered later, filling the gap left by forgotten people.

In pasture. Circular area (diam. 30.1m) defined by earthen bank (H 2.6m). According to landowner, depressions in NE quadrant due to recent digging-up of surface.
