Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballyfinegan

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballyfinegan is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ballyfinegan, County Roscommon, Ireland. The circular grass-covered area measures about 47 metres north-south and 44 metres east-west, rising 0.6 to 1 metre above the ground at the summit of a west-northwest to east-southeast ridge. Although no fosse or entrance remains visible, the distinct shape and position identify it as a rath.
Visible as a circular feature on aerial photographs (GSIAP: M 63-4), and situated at the summit of a WNW-ESE ridge, towards the SE end. This is a circular grass-covered and slightly domed area (diam. c. 47m N-S; c. 44m E-W; H 0.6m at N to 1m at E). There is no visible fosse or entrance but it is undoubtedly a rath.
