What is recorded here

Ballyea held two earth rings, thirty metres apart, on a north-facing slope where cattle still graze. Surveyors marked the first as a thirty-five metre enclosure in 1923, but ploughs and drains have since rubbed that line almost flat. Only a shallow ditch, forty centimetres wide and ten centimetres deep, still breaks the grass from north-west to east. The second ring remains visible beside it, proving the first was no survey mistake but a neighbour in the same field.

In pasture, on break in N-facing hill slope. Monument, depicted as sub-circular enclosure (diam. 35m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. However, shallow fosse (Wth 0.4m; D 0.1m) can be traced NNW->E. Field drain, on E-W axis, possibly clips S tip of enclosure. Interior under pasture. Similar enclosure lies 30m to E (LI029-140---).
