Fairy forts are earthen rings people built and used before written records, often losing their human names and becoming fairy names instead. In Ballyduff the ring measures about forty-eight metres across inside a broad bank, heavily overgrown, with local tradition claiming an underground passage within. That combination of ordinary building, forgotten use and fairy reputation is what makes these places striking: human hands, lost time, and a story kept alive because the shape still stands.

Indicated on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map and on the 1900-01 revision as an irregular curvilinear area (max. diam. c. 60m) with trees growing in the interior. A large, circular area (int. diam. c. 48m) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 4m; H 1.5m), with traces of a stone revetment. The monument is heavily overgrown with trees and scrub. A fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ballyduff, likely dating to the early medieval period, is marked on the 1839 and 1900–01 Ordnance Survey maps as an enclosed circular area with a maximum diameter of about 60 metres. Local tradition associates such sites with fairy lore, and they were often avoided due to beliefs in supernatural inhabitants.
