Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballycahane

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not for us. They are for the Old Ones. The circle in Ballycahane still stands, though farming has softened its edge. The fairies may be gone, but their territory is not. To enter a fairy fort is to leave human rules behind. The land may permit it. Its owners may not.
Atop low rise, in gently undulating pasture; terrain dips sharply down to N into valley. Circular area (26.7m N-S; 26m E-W) defined by scarped edge (H 0.7m; Wth 5.9m) E->NNW; no enclosing element discernible NNW->E. Interior level and under pasture. Farmhouse, converted into farm shed, with new dwelling house standing alongside, lies 30m to S. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
