What is recorded here
Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballybrogan is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ballybrogan, County Roscommon, Ireland. The circular site sits on a slight northwest-southeast spur and measures about thirty-six metres across. An overgrown earthen bank, partly faced with stone, surrounds the area while an intermittently visible ditch and faint outer bank remain at the northern edge. Quarrying has damaged the perimeter at the north-northeast and southeast, removing any clear original entrance.
On the crest of a slight NW-SE spur. Circular overgrown area (diam. c. 36m E-W) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth 4.5-5.2m; int. H 0.45-0.65m; ext. H 1.1-1.9m), which is incorporated into a field bank with stone facing SE-WSW. There is an intermittently visible fosse (at N: Wth of top 6.6m; Wth of base 2.5m; D 1.8m) and traces of an outer bank (at N: Wth 5m; ext. H 0.2m). There is no identifiable original entrance, but the perimeter is quarried N-NNE and at SE.
