An Lios is a circular rath directly west of Ballyandreen, enclosed by an earthen bank and a broad fosse on level ground near the Owenascaul river. Its interior holds a large raised platform with a central depression, beside which a flagstone was said to mark an underground passage. That claim remains local tradition rather than proven fact, but it gives the quiet earth a strange purpose: a hidden door beneath an ordinary field.

Ballinvoher Fort/An Lios: KE045-048----: Situated directly W of Ballyandreen village, on level ground about 200m E of a tributary of the Owenascaul river, this circular rath is enclosed by a single earthen bank and fosse. The 2nd outer bank, which encloses much of the W half of the site, appears to be a later field fence. The fosse is 5m wide at base and .9m deep below the external ground level. The bank is c. 6m wide at base and rises 3.3m above the base of the fosse and 1.2m above the interior. The bank has been levelled and replaced by a field fence along the SE sector, and it is here that the original entrance must have been located. The only feature visible in the interior is a large raised platform in the E sector. This measures 12m x 16.6m x .5m in height, and a depression near its centre measures 5m x 4.1m. A large flagstone which lies directly SW of the latter was said to mark the entrance to a Man-made underground passage (OSNB Ballinvoher, book 2, 2). The above description is derived from J.
