Fairy fort in Ballinphelic, County Cork: an oval earthen ringfort, 53 metres north-south and 43 metres east-west, rising about 1.3 metres above the pasture south of Owenboy river. Its shallow inner bank runs from the west toward the southeast, forming a saucer-shaped hollow clear of overgrowth except in one quadrant. People may have lived there, fenced stock, or simply avoided it after dark; the earth keeps that much to itself.
