What is recorded here

Aughalin holds a faded ringfort where a steep western terrace meets level pasture. Its earthen bank and shallow ditch still mark a thirty-four metre circle, though farming has worn the structure thin. The site may have served as a boundary marker, a dwelling, or a place of ritual before human hands reshaped it. What remains is a subtle line in the grass, waiting for attention rather than announcement.

In level pasture, on terrace of steep W-facing slope. Enclosure has been levelled and incorporated into pasture field but is still evident as sub-circular area (diam. c. 34m) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.1m), with external fosse (D 0.25m; Wth 2m) SSW->ESE. A field boundary truncates enclosing element NE->ESE. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
