Muddy feet, lost socks and hidden chambers belong in fairy forts, not human history. Ardnageehy West contained an earthen ringfort, a sub-circular enclosure about thirty-five metres wide that people built, used and forgot before carts, cameras or maps. It is levelled now, erased from the slope like a cancelled sentence. The land keeps its shape only in memory, denying the fancy tale and refusing to explain itself.
