Marianne and her brother Seamus ran the Ardglass estate when the fort still stood proud on the SE-facing slope. They kept the surrounding pasture for working horses and never buried the earthworks, though local people called it a fairy fort and avoided it after dark. The circular enclosure measured about twenty-five metres across and appeared clearly on the 1842 map before later farming levelled much of its shape.
