Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Annagh (trughanacmy By., Kiltallagh Ed)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are human ringforts, misnamed through fear and wonder. This is one of them: a circular earthwork in Kerry grassland, close to Annagh church and graveyard, with another fort nearby. The lane cuts through it, which means people kept using the place even after they stopped living inside it. The boundary is still visible because soil holds shape when attention leaves it.
In grassland, with Annagh church (KE038-003001-) and graveyard (KE038-003002-) 45m to N. Tonakilla Fort (KE038-003005-) 375m to NW. Depicted on 1841 ed.
