Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Anaverna, a sub-circular enclosure twenty-four metres across, still stands with a four-metre-wide earthen bank on the west side. The east bank has surrendered to modern field walls, yet the shape remains clear enough to walk inside. People may have lived there, excluded others, or marked a boundary long before written memory. The earth keeps its own record, pressing flat under grass but refusing to disappear.

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Sub-circular area (int. dims. 24m E-W, 21m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank on W (Wth 4m; H 0.5m internally, 1.7m externally), and on E by bank obscured by modern field walls.
