What is recorded here

Dark water still moves around the fort in An Bhinn Dubh, where a broken earth ring rises above the marsh. People called it a fairy fort, perhaps because the missing sector and changing shape resisted ordinary explanation. It is not much bigger than a wide room, yet it has watched the River Reelan for centuries.

A circular area named 'Fort' is indicated on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch maps and an oval hachured area is shown on the 3rd edition. A disturbed mound of earth 1m to 1.6m above the surrounding field with an overall diameter of 18.75m. The NE sector is quarried away. It is situated in low-lying marshy land on the N bank of the River Reelan. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal.
