Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Allardstown (louth By) (County Louth, Ireland): A sub-circular earthwork with a degraded bank and faint outer ditch marks an old defensive or domestic enclosure. People may have lived, herded or hidden there before the land forgot their names. The remaining ridge still outlines a choice made in haste or pride, perhaps to keep out rain, raiders or curiosity.

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Sub-circular area (int. dims. c. 49.5m NE-SW; 43m NW-SE) enclosed by a degraded earthen bank (Wth c. 7m, H 1.2m-2m externally) with slight traces of external fosse at W.
