A thirty-foot circular fort marked Aghamore on the 1837 map, its twin banks and central ditch fading into pasture before disappearing entirely by 1998. The land swallowed the boundary while people kept living above it, turning stone and soil into forgetfulness. What the survey captured, the decades erased, leaving only a slope where a fort stood.

On an ENE-facing slope in pasture. Depicted as a circular enclosure with the designation ‘Fort’ on the 1837 edition of the OS 6-inch map. A report in 1986 (SMR file) recorded that, although levelled, the outline of two banks with an intermediate fosse could still be traced enclosing a roughly circular area (diam. c. 40m). Local tradition associates such sites with fairy folklore, while archaeological reports suggest the remains of at least two banks, now levelled.
