Fairy fort in Aghaboy, County Longford: a 42.5 m circular platform still standing inside a broad earth-and-stone bank and outer ditch in level pasture. By 1990 two extra banks and a second ditch had already been levelled, and the main entrance may have faced east. The name suggests people once imagined more than humans lived there, yet the measured shape and remaining bank record a deliberately built defensive or ceremonial enclosure.

In level pasture. A raised circular area (diam. 42.5m) enclosed by a very wide bank of earth and stone (Wth c. 9m; H 0.5-0.9m) and a wide external fosse (Wth 3-6m; D 0.4-1.5m). A report in 1990 (SMR file) recorded two more banks and a second fosse, all of which have since been levelled. It suggested that the original entrance may have been at E. Compiled by: Patrick F.
