Archaeological testing was carried out in the vicinity of a rath (CO087-030----) and Man-made underground passage (C0087-089----) in advance of a large multi-phase housing development at Carrigaline Middle in 2001. A roughly oval pit (F6), measuring 1.3m E-W by 0.65m N-S and containing a fill of silty material with frequent amounts of heat-shattered stones and occasional flecks of charcoal, was uncovered to the NNW of the rath (CO087-030----).
