Excavation

Excavated by Doody (1987, 10-21) between April and May 1982. A number of pits, postholes, charcoal spreads and linear features were found c. 17m S and SW of a ditch barrow (TS077-046004-) and one V-shaped fosse (L 10m; Wth 1.96m; D 0.85m) 8m NE of the ditch barrow (Doody 1987, 13-14). Two of the pits may have been refuse pits as one contained some pottery and flint and the other a homogeneous dark brown soil (ibid. 20). According to the excavator the post holes, directly associated with these pits, were very shallow and probably represent the remains of light timber posts, possibly for temporary shelter (ibid.).
