What is recorded here

On a N-S running ridge in undulating pastureland overlooking the Ballinure River to W. Marked on OS 6-inch maps as an oval enclosure immediately to NW of a church (GA087-211001-). It consists of an oval area (N-S 46m, E-W 30m) defined by a low degraded bank (Wth 2.7m, H 0.6m max.). This has been destroyed from E to SSE where the church and a small adjoining enclosure overlie it. A series of earthworks (GA087-211003-) is associated. (ASGAP 171:10) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'.

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
