Enclosure in Shanballyduff (dangandargan Par.)

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Within interior of enclosure (TS060-112----), off-centre to E. Sub-oval area (dims. 28.5m NE-SW; 27m NW-SE) defined by scarp (Wth 3m; H 0.35m) SSE-N and by bank (Wth 6.15m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.7m) N-SSE. Bank is well defined yet is largely obscured by mature grasses and thistles. Possible traces of fosse (difficult to obtain an exact measurement due to dense grasses). Interior is generally level and obscured by same. Remains of field boundary around monument have been levelled, where seen, and may have been merged into enclosing bank. The presence of an outer enclosure suggests that this monument, together with the external feature, may be a concentric enclosure. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of revised upload: 28 October 2015
