Enclosure in Rockfield (clanmorris By.)

In pasture, located in uneven, undulating terrain broken by rocky outcrops and low rises strewn with limestone boulders. The enclosure encompasses an area of level ground lying between three natural rocky rises. The field has undergone reclamation work, and heaps of field clearance stones are piled on some of the natural outcrops. This enclosure is not on any edition of the OS 6-inch maps. The remains consist of a flat, circular area (33.3m N–S; 33m E–W) enclosed slight remnants of a stone bank/wall (Wth 1.7-2m; H 0.4m). The stone bank is evident as a low, sod-covered rise with large stones and limestone boulders protruding from it in parts. It appears to be more substantial at NE, SSW and NW where it backs onto areas of outcropping. A later field wall skirts the outer edge of the enclosure at S–SSW. A break (Wth 2.4m) at SW provides tractor access to the interior. There are remnants of a possible field wall or scarp at the base of the rocky rise immediately to NW of the enclosure, and a relict field boundary (a single row of stones) skirts the S-SW edge of the site. There is a possible hut site (MA092-118001-) on top of the adjacent rocky rise c. 12m to W, and a possible enclosure (MA092-098001-) and field walls (MA092-098002-) are located c.150m to SE.
