Enclosure in Magheranearla

Enclosure

What is recorded here

On a SE-facing slope in grassland. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a roughly D-shaped enclosure (c. 31m NW-SE) with a straight NW side (L c. 46m). On inspection in July 1984, apart from a low rise, no visible surface trace survived. However, its outline, indicated by a change in vegetation colour, is visible on the OSi digitalglobe aerial imagery (Google 2019). A later NNE-SSW running field boundary cuts through the E half of the site. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 30 July 2019
