Knocknaceann is a small circular enclosure with a fifteen-metre earthen bank in Lisnevagh. Local story connects it to the battle of Dunmachir and a burial ground, though its present shape suggests an ornamental feature instead. That change from death to decoration is typical of old Irish landscape, where memory reshapes stone and soil until the original purpose becomes optional.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Small circular enclosure (diam. c. 15m) defined by earthen bank. Known locally as 'Knocknaceann', possibly burial ground associated with battle of Dunmachir, mentioned in Book of Ballymote. Present remains appear to represent ornamental feature.
