Enclosure in Knockduff

In pasture, on a SE-facing slope, in the valley of the River Sheen. A circular area (24.6m E-W; 23.6m N-S) defined by a poorly preserved wall, consisting of an inner and outer row of upright contiguous stones (T 1.8m; H 0.7m) with earth and stone infill. The wall is best preserved NE-E and W-NW. The enclosing element S-WSW is obscured by bushes. The SE portion of the interior is raised (H 0.6m) and the NW portion is cut (H 1m) into the upslope to compensate for the hillslope. A road boundary wall skirts the wall externally at NW. A N-S field wall crosses the W half of the interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry.
