Enclosure in Kilross (clonbeg Par.)

In improved pasture at the base of a NW-facing slope and immediately E of a pond. Identified during field survey by Alison McQueen and Vera Rahilly (20 January 2009). A broad drainage channel running NW-SE in the field flows into the pond. A semi-circular area (dims. 14m NNW-SSE along field boundary; 24m ENE-WSW) defined by a scarp (Wth 6.35m; H 1.5m) and fosse (basal Wth 3.25m; overall Wth 10.9m; D 0.2m) visible in the S quadrant. The pond defines the monument in the E quadrant. The base of the scarp is waterlogged in the SW sector. There is a large dump of soil, now grasses over, in the fosse at S. The monument is truncated by a main road (R662 Galbally to Tipperary) running E-W roughly N of the centre, flanked by hedgerow and a shallow drain. The enclosure is not visible at ground level N of the road. There is evidence of cattle erosion on the scarp at the SE. The interior is generally even and grass covered and slopes to the NE.
