Enclosure in Clonmoney West — Report the wrong picture

What is recorded here

A narrow road cut through a farmstead that had stood since the post-medieval period. The enclosure measured thirty-nine by twenty metres, and its thick walls held small stones between large facing blocks. People lived and worked inside that rectangle before the road took it. They likely kept animals, stored tools, or shared meals near the warm south-east slope. The road removed what the land had remembered.

Situated on a gentle SE-facing slope. Trial excavation in 1999 (Licence no. 99E0640) in advance of road development on the N18/N19 Ballycasey-Dromoland Road Improvement Scheme determined that a low, grass-covered rectangular enclosure (39m x 20m) was most likely part of a medieval or post-medieval farmstead (Jones 2002, 24). The site was fully excavated in 2001 (Licence no. 01E0024) and a post-medieval date was confirmed (Murphy 2006, 13). The wall (av. Wth 1.5m) was faced internally and externally with large stones while the cavity was packed with smaller stones. Finds from the interior related to both domestic and industrial activities.
