Enclosure in Caherdesert

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Caherdesert hides a circular enclosure around an underground passage and standing stone, visible only when drought parches the grass. The land may have worn away walls, roofs and paths, yet the shape still appears underfoot like a forgotten room waiting to be remembered.
Parch mark in grass (CASAP) shows circular enclosure surrounding Man-made underground passage (C0054-02101-) and standing stone (CO054-02103-). Possible cashel (CO054-02001-) c. 30m to NW. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
