Enclosure in Ballykeerogemore

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Located on a level landscape. The faint cropmark of a circular enclosure (diam. c. 50m NE-SW) defined by a narrow fosse feature SW-W-NE that is truncated at SE by a NE-SW roadway, is visible on aerial photographs (MM (19) 18-21). It is not visible on the SE side of the road in a cereal crop and it may have been an ornamental feature. Archaeological monitoring (15E0412) in Area 5 of a gas pipe under the road produced no related material. (Sutton 2018; excavations.ie 2015:422) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload/revision: 24 January, 2013 Amended: 2 May, 2014; 19 October 2020
