What is recorded here

Enclosure in Ardinode East, County Kildare: two concentric ditches, fifty metres across, shadowed in a 1963 aerial photograph on a north-facing slope above the River Liffey. The ditches are gone from the surface now, erased by plough or time, but they marked a boundary someone drew deliberately, perhaps a rath with a smaller attached field. A second enclosure lies seventy metres to the northwest, suggesting a settlement rather than a lone monument. The land remembers what the eye has forgotten.

On a gentle N-facing pasture slope overlooking the River Liffey to the N. Visible on a 1963 aerial photograph (CUCAP AHK 34) as the cropmarks of two concentric fosses enclosing a circular area (est max diam. c. 50m) with traces of another fosse defining a possible D-shaped annexe at S. May be the levelled remains of a bi-vallate rath with an annexe or small field attached? No visible surface trace survives. A second levelled enclosure (KD029-008----) lies c 70m to the NW.
