Embanked enclosure

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Turlagh (athlone North By.), County Roscommon, Ireland. Ordnance Survey maps from 1837 and 1915 show a circular embanked enclosure about 35 metres across at the southwest edge of a basin. A grass-covered earthen mound 1.5 metres high remains where the enclosure may have been removed.
Marked as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 35m) on the 1837 and 1915 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and situated at the SW edge of a basin. A subcircular grass-covered earthen mound (diam. of base 11m NW-SE; 9.5m NE-SW; H 1.5m) with stones may be a spoil mound from the removal of an enclosure.
