What is recorded here

Marked as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 20m) on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a shelf of the NE-facing slope of Rathcroghan ridge. Described (Knox 1914a, 22-3) as a rectangular area (dims c. 40m E-W; c. 35m N-S) defined by earthen banks (Wth 1-2m; H 0.5-0.9m) at N and E, and scarps (H 0.6m) at S and W. A rectangular enclosure (dims c. 7m x 7m), undoubtedly a house site (RO022-056056-), was inside the perimeter at SE. It is not now visible at ground level in pasture. Holy well (RO022-056027-) and rath (RO022-056029-) are c. 80m and c. 100m to the S and rath (RO022-056030-) is c. 170m to the SE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
