Embanked enclosure

Marked as small circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 25m) only on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map and located towards the bottom of a slight NE-facing slope, with a NW-SE stream c. 50m to the NE. This is a small, overgrown mound (dims. 26m NE-SW; 11m NW-SE: H 0.4m) at the edge of a marshy area and it may be the spoil from the removal of an earthwork enclosure. Embanked enclosure; date uncertain but potentially prehistoric. Its significance lies in its rare representation on early Ordnance Survey maps, suggesting possible ceremonial or defensive function.
